CALENDAR HIGHLIGHTS - SENIORS

If you are 55 and older and want to give back to your community through volunteering, consider RSVP, a Volunteers of America program that pairs volunteers with 80+ agencies in Denver, Douglas and western Arapahoe counties. Sign up for a sweet tour of the Hammond Candy Factory and more this month at Platt Park Senior Center, “for people over 50,” 1500 S. Grant St. The Mon., June 16, outing runs 9:30a.m.-noon, and costs $4. Call or stop in for details of this and other activities:
     Conga in the comfort of an air-conditioned ballroom at Hot Diggity Tea Dance Fri., June 13, 1-3:15p.m. Hot dogs, chips and watermelon served up with $5 admission. Every week, swing at the Monday Night Dance (7-9:30p.m., $4, free lesson from 6-7p.m. with paid entry), or Tuesday Line Dance, 10-11:30a.m.
     Turn family photos into unique, personal works of art in Heritage Collage class, four Thursdays, 1-3:30p.m., starting June 12. Cost: $12 plus $5 materials.
     Catch the bus for a day of gambling at Fortune Valley Casino, Fri., June 20, for $25. Leaves at 8:45a.m.
     Release stress, stretch and breathe with Yoga AM, Wed., 8:45-9:45a.m., or try Monday Drop-in Yoga, 4:30-5:30p.m. Play Grocery Bingo (Tuesdays, 1-3p.m., $2 for four cards). Or just have fun with the foursomes at Pinochle Drop-in, Thur., 12:30-4p.m.

Socialize on Sundays at the Robert E. Loup Jewish Community Center, 350 S. Dahlia St. and enjoy movies, speakers, entertainers and trips; JCC membership is not required.      JCC also matches seniors with offers of home hospitality at holidays throughout the year. To participate, either as a visiting senior or a host family, or for info about other JCC senior activities, call Elka Popack at 303-316-6358.

Seniors with chronic illnesses can get the support and services to live safe, healthy independent lives at home with the help of JFS at Home, a new in-home care agency of Jewish Family Service of Colorado, serving seniors regardless of faith or economic status. Thirty skilled, certified caregivers provide personal care assistance, homemaker services and medical care referrals to metro area seniors on full- or part-time, short- or long-term, live-in or live-out basis.

Programs, city tours and dinner theater outings are enjoyed by members of Bonnie Brae AARP Chapter 2918, which meets at the Kirk of Bonnie Brae Church, 1201 S.
