CALENDAR HIGHLIGHTS - HEALTH

Nearly every day of the week there’s a drop-in fitness class available at the Washington Park Recreation Center, 701 S. Franklin St. Training for a triathlon or just want to become a better swimmer? Check out the Master’s Swim Program for adults, held each Tues. & Thur., 5:30-6:30p.m. No membership is required. Cost per time is $3/age 18-64, and $2/age 65+. Info: 303-698-4962.

The University of Denver Psychology Dept.’s couples clinic is now open for its 15th year, at sliding scale fees. Couples who want to improve their communication and conflict management skills can benefit; services are also offered to individuals whose partners are not willing to attend. The Couples Clinic is held every Saturday at Denver Family Institute, 7200 E. Hampden Ave., Suite 301. Couples and individuals with relationship concerns are welcome. All intimate relationships share many common problems and solutions; learn more through taking a short assessment. Titles include: Asthma 101: What Makes It Worse?; Ready, Set, Stop: Tools For Giving Up Smoking; Is Your Child Food Allergic?; Free Lung Function Screening; and more. Alzheimer’s Association free educational program series offers many classes to support Alzheimer’s sufferers and their families in dealing with all aspects of the illness. A free Breast Cancer support group is available for women interested in alternative therapies. The group meets weekly and is hosted by Julie Lovely-Ross, who has been an alternative health practitioner for more than a decade and has been dealing with her own breast cancer since October of 1993. The Rafael Spiritual Healing Center, a program of Jewish Family Service of Colorado, provides counseling and support for people who are grieving, living with chronic illness or caring for someone who is ill. Support groups run eight weeks, cost $10 per session, and incorporate both spiritual and psychological counseling.
